Quick answer

In the City of Delta (Ladner, Tsawwassen and North Delta), garbage, recycling and the Green Can are all picked up every week on the same day. Have everything at the curb by 7:00 am. To find your day, use the free Recycle Coach app or the 2026 Curbside Collection Guide on delta.ca. After a statutory holiday, pickup moves one day later for the rest of that week. For large items, call Remple Disposal at 604-835-1792 to book a free pickup (up to 4 items a year).

This guide covers City of Delta curbside collection in Ladner, Tsawwassen and North Delta: your pickup day, what goes where, holidays, large items and missed pickups.

Everything below comes from the City of Delta website and the Return-It website, checked on September 25, 2026. Rules can change, so check the official pages at the bottom before you act.

How to find your Delta garbage day

Delta picks up garbage, recycling and Green Can material every week, all on the same day. Your day depends on your address. Collection days run from Monday to Thursday, depending on where you live. Here are three ways to find yours:

  1. Recycle Coach app (Apple and Android). Enter your address to see your calendar and set pickup reminders. You can also look up where items go and report a missed pickup in the app.
  2. 2026 Curbside Collection Guide on the City's Collection Schedule page. It comes as a printable PDF and an interactive guide, and covers January 2026 to January 2027. It has a colour-coded map of collection days and a calendar that shows holidays.
  3. Call Engineering at 604-946-3260, or email engineering@delta.ca.

North Delta: the City's 2026 Spring Clean-Up notice gave North Delta homes different dates depending on whether their regular day is Wednesday or Thursday. If you live near the Surrey border, your day is most likely one of those two. Confirm it in the app.

Tip: Live in a townhouse? Ask your strata whether you are on curbside collection or on the shared (bin) recycling program. The two have different schedules.

What goes where

Delta does not use City-supplied wheeled carts for garbage or organics. You use your own cans and bags for garbage and your own cans for the Green Can. Recycling goes in bins and bags that the City gives out for free.

ContainerWhat goes in itLimit
Garbage can or bagOnly things that can't be recycled or composted2 cans or bags a week, max 100 L and 25 kg each
Green CanFood scraps, food-soiled paper, yard trimmingsNo limit; max 100 L and 25 kg per can
Blue BinContainers, placed loose (plastic, metal, cartons, cups)No limit if sorted
Grey BinGlass bottles and jarsNo limit if sorted
Yellow BagMixed paper, newspaper, flyers and cardboardNo limit if sorted

Garbage

A standard garbage can or bag holds up to 100 L. Bungee cords and ties on cans are not allowed, and loose items will not be collected. If you have more than two, put a garbage sticker on each extra can or bag. A sheet of six stickers costs $7.50 at City Hall or the North and South Delta Recreation Centres.

Green Can (food and yard waste)

Any lidded can up to 100 L can be a Green Can. Just put a free Green Can sticker on it, facing the street. You can get stickers at City Hall and most recreation centres. You can also use Kraft paper yard bags. Branches that don't fit must be tied in bundles no longer than 1 m, with no branch thicker than 15 cm. Each bundle can weigh up to 20 kg. Do not use plastic bags of any kind, even ones marked compostable or biodegradable. Pet waste, diapers, rocks, dirt and sod are not accepted.

Recycling

You can get free Blue Bins, Grey Bins and Yellow Bags at City Hall (4500 Clarence Taylor Crescent, Ladner), the North Delta Recreation Centre (11415 84 Ave) and the South Delta Recreation Centre (1720 56 St, Tsawwassen). Flatten cardboard into bundles no bigger than 1 m x 1 m x 10 cm. Plastic bags, foam packaging and other flexible plastics do not go in the Blue Bin. Take them to a depot (listed below).

Safety: Never put batteries in the garbage or the Blue Bin. Delta warns that lithium batteries can be damaged in trucks and start fires. Delta has free Call2Recycle battery bins at City Hall, the Ladner Leisure Centre, South Delta Recreation Centre, Winskill Aquatic & Fitness Centre, North Delta Recreation Centre, Sungod Recreation Centre and Kennedy Senior Centre.

Holidays, snow and apartments

Statutory holidays: there is no curbside collection on statutory holidays. After a holiday, collection moves one day later for the rest of that week, then goes back to normal the next week. For example, if Monday is a holiday, Monday's pickup happens on Tuesday, Wednesday's on Thursday and Thursday's on Friday.

Snow and ice: collection may be late. The contractor will try later that day or the next day. If crews still can't reach your containers, they will be picked up on your next collection day.

Apartments and shared complexes: shared recycling is picked up every week. Ladner complexes are collected on Mondays, Tsawwassen on Wednesdays and North Delta on Thursdays. The same one-day holiday delay applies. For food scraps in multi-family complexes, private haulers are used.

Large items and bulky waste

Large Item Pick-Up Program

Homes that get City curbside garbage collection can have up to four large items picked up each year. You can have them all picked up at once or on separate days. Your count resets on January 1, and unused pickups do not carry over.

  1. Book with Remple Disposal by calling 604-835-1792 or emailing largeitempickup@rempledisposal.com. Include your address, a list of items and photos. Check your spam folder for their reply.
  2. Remple will give you a pickup date. It is not the same as your garbage day.
  3. Put the items at the curb by 7:00 am on that date. Do not put them out earlier.

Accepted: furniture (couches, chairs, tables, dressers, wood bed frames), large plastic items, and metal items such as stoves, washers, dryers, dishwashers, BBQs, fridges, freezers and empty hot water tanks. Mattresses and box springs are accepted if they are dry and sealed in plastic.

Not accepted: items two people can't lift, cut-up furniture, bagged small items, electronics, small appliances, tires, paint, propane tanks, mirrors and glass, toilets and tubs, and renovation materials.

Spring Clean-Up

Once a year, Delta holds a Spring Clean-Up. Homes with curbside collection can put out up to one pickup-truck load (2.5 m x 1.2 m x 1 m) of bagged or bundled items. The 2026 dates (March 30 to April 10) have already passed, so watch for next year's dates on delta.ca.

Free mattress voucher

The Vancouver Landfill charges a $20 recycling fee per mattress. With Delta's Mattress Recycling Voucher, you can take up to two mattresses there for free. You get one voucher per household per year. Apply through Engineering at 604-946-3260 or engineering@delta.ca. You need proof of residency, and the person who applied must be there with photo ID.

Missed pickup

First, check the common reasons. Your material may not have met the guidelines (overweight, bungee cords, wrong items or plastic bags). Roadwork or parked cars may have blocked the truck. Weather may have slowed collection. If none of these apply, report the missed pickup online at delta.ca/TalkDelta, in the Recycle Coach app, or by calling 604-946-3260.
