Quick answer

Langley has two separate garbage programs. In the Township of Langley, enter your address at tol.ca/calendar (or use the Recycle Coach app and choose "Township of Langley"). Garbage is picked up every other week, and the Green Cart and recycling every week. In the City of Langley, use the City's 2026 collection schedule to find your zone (A or B). Garbage is picked up every second week and the green (organics) cart every week. Recycling is weekly and run by Recycle BC. In both, carts must be at the curb by 7:30am.

"Langley" is two different municipalities, the Township of Langley and the City of Langley. They have different contractors, calendars, phone numbers and holiday rules, so make sure you are following the right one.

All details were checked on tol.ca, langleycity.ca and metrovancouver.org on September 25, 2026.

First: are you in the Township or the City of Langley?

Both use "Langley" in mailing addresses. The simplest check is your property tax notice or utility bill, which comes from your municipality. Renters can ask their landlord.

  • Township of Langley: the large municipality that runs from the Fraser River to the U.S. border, and from 196 Street (the Surrey border) east to 276 Street (the Abbotsford border). It includes communities such as Aldergrove, Brookswood, Fort Langley, Murrayville and Walnut Grove.
  • City of Langley: the smaller municipality on the west side, next to Surrey. City Hall is at 20399 Douglas Crescent.

Township of Langley: find your collection day

  • Go to tol.ca/calendar and type your address to get a personal collection calendar.
  • Download the Recycle Coach app. Make sure you search for and select "Township of Langley", or the app may say your municipality is not supported.
  • Or use the 2026 printable collection map and calendar. Collection days run Monday to Thursday, in A and B zones.

You can set reminders by email, phone call or the app.

Only seeing recycling on your calendar? The Township says homes in more rural areas and some strata complexes get only municipal recycling, not garbage and organics. Those homes can self-haul or hire a private hauler.

Township of Langley: what goes where

  • Garbage cart (grey lid): only items that cannot go in the Green Cart or recycling, or back to a depot. Plastic bags are fine in the garbage cart. Items over 2.5 metres long or 1.2 metres wide are not accepted.
  • Green Cart (green lid): food scraps (including meat, bones and dairy), yard trimmings, coffee filters, tea bags, paper napkins and towels, and pizza boxes. No plastic bags of any kind, including compostable ones. No rocks, sod or soil.
  • Recycling: blue box, yellow bag and grey box, for containers, paper, and glass bottles and jars. Glass does not go in the blue box. Unlimited recycling is allowed if it is sorted into the right containers. Clear or blue bags are not accepted.

Put carts within one metre of the road without blocking sidewalks or traffic. The Township does not recommend setting garbage out before 8pm the night before.

Township of Langley: extra garbage and yard waste

  • Extra Garbage stickers cost $3.50 per bag or 80L can. They are sold at the Civic Facility, community centres and some local stores.
  • Extra yard trimmings can go out in paper bags or 80L cans with a "Green Can" or "Yard Trimmings" decal. Branch bundles can be up to 1 metre long, and each bag, can or bundle up to 20 kg.
  • Bigger or extra garbage carts add an annual fee to your property taxes. For example, an additional 120L cart is $100 more per year (2026 rates).

Township of Langley: holidays and missed pickups

The 2026 calendar marks statutory holidays as "No Collection" days, and your schedule shifts that week. If you sign up for "Single Collection or Event" reminders, the system tells you about the "No Collection" day and your new pickup day.

If your cart was not emptied, first look for a tag. It may say the cart had banned items or needs an Extra Garbage sticker. If there is no tag, call Sierra Waste Services at 604-530-3939. If you still need help, call the Township at 604-532-3533.

City of Langley: find your collection day

Open the City's 2026 Garbage and Organics Collection Schedule. Use the map to find your zone letter (A or B), then match it to the calendar to see your garbage weeks. The green cart goes out every week. Recycling is on the same day, and Recycle BC's Langley City page has the recycling schedule.

City curbside service is for single-family homes and non-strata townhomes. The City says apartments, strata and commercial properties do not get City waste collection and should contact their strata or property manager.

City of Langley: what goes where

  • Garbage cart (240L): household garbage and bagged pet waste. If more than 5% of a cart is banned or recyclable material, a 50% surcharge on disposal costs can be billed back to you.
  • Organics cart (240L): all food scraps (including meat, dairy and bones), food-soiled paper, coffee grounds and filters, branches, leaves, grass and plant trimmings. Wrap scraps only in paper. The cart will not be emptied if it has plastic bags, including compostable ones.
  • Recycling: yellow bag for paper and cardboard, blue bin for plastic, metal containers and cartons, grey bin for glass bottles and jars.

Carts go at the curb by 7:30am, wheels facing your house, lid opening facing the street, with 1 metre (3 feet) of space around each one. Lids must close fully.

Tip: The City is running an extra yard waste pilot from October 19 to November 27. Homes with City organics service can put extra yard waste in paper yard waste bags beside the organics cart on collection day, with no stickers or registration.

City of Langley: holidays, snow and missed pickups

  • Statutory holidays: collection continues on the regular schedule, except January 1 and December 25. On those two days, collection is delayed by one day for the rest of that week.
  • Snow and ice: the contractor will try later that day or the next day, or else on your next scheduled day.
  • Missed garbage or organics: call Emterra at 604-635-0999 or email col@emterra.ca.
  • Missed recycling: call GFL Environmental at 778-765-3662.

Large item pickup

Township: homes with municipal garbage collection can have up to four large items picked up per calendar year. Book online or call Sierra Waste Services at 604-530-3939. Furniture, large appliances, exercise equipment and area rugs up to 5 by 8 feet are accepted. Up to two of the four can be mattresses or box springs, which must be bagged. Renovation materials, TVs, tires, propane tanks and hazardous waste are not accepted.

City: detached single-family homes can book up to four large items a year by calling Emterra at 604-635-0999 or emailing col@emterra.ca. Furniture and appliances such as stoves, fridges, washers and hot water tanks are accepted. Mattresses, carpets, renovation materials, hazardous waste, propane tanks and tires are not.

Drop-off options

  • Metro Vancouver Recycling and Waste Centres: the Township points residents to the Langley and North Surrey centres for self-hauling garbage and extra waste. Check Metro Vancouver's site for hours, accepted materials and fees.
  • Recycle BC depots: in the City, foam packaging and soft plastics such as bags and bubble wrap go to a depot, not curbside.
